How to encourage "please," "thank you," and other nice words

Mommies out there, some tips to encourage our little ones to behave politely. Extracted from Babycenter.

************************************************************************************

Mummy : Abang, tolong mummy ambikkan diaper Hana boleh?

Little Ranger: Mummy, say pretty pleaseeee.....

Mummy : Preeettttyyy pleasseeeeeeee (sabar jeklah anak aku nih).

Ok, thank you sayang.

Little Ranger : You're welcome.

*************************************************************************************

Everyone marvels at the child who says "please" and "thank you." But if yours is one who often forgets the niceties, you might be wondering what you can do to encourage her to say more of those pleasant words you long to hear.

Experts advise against taking the "What's the magic word?" and "Now what do you say?" approach most of our parents were so fond of.

If you don't want to come home to a kid who won't look up from the TV to say hello, the best approach is to set a good example. If you always greet the family and bid them goodbye, your kids will pick up on your habits starting around age 2.

When Mom comes home, for instance, Dad might give her a kiss and a hearty "Hello! How was your day?" When Dad's on his way out the door, Mom and the kids might give him a hug or say, "Have a nice day, Daddy."

"Please" and "thank you" are other words dearly beloved by parents. When you ask your child to come to dinner, add the polite words you'd like her to use: "Jeannie, please come to the table now." When she cheerfully shows up, tell her "Thank you for coming so quickly." Your modeling will help her learn this habit, and when you hear her saying "please," praise her for it.

Saying "thank you" is a bit slower in coming than please, but generally by age 4 or 5 your child will start saying it. It's helpful to gently remind her that people are more likely to grant her wishes when she asks for things politely and is grateful – and that it makes people feel good to be appreciated for what they do.

Another useful word – "sorry" – is perhaps the most important of all. But parents often overuse this word, says Betsy Brown Braun, author of Just Tell Me What to Say: Sensible Tips and Scripts for Perplexed Parents. Embarrassed over their child's gaffes, parents push kids to say they're sorry in the heat of the moment.

"It's far more important to teach empathy than to force a child to parrot hollow words," says Brown Braun. "Don't just start demanding that your child say sorry. Explain to him why what he did was wrong: 'See how sad that boy is that you took his car?' Then show him how to make it better: 'Should we give him his car back and bring him a tissue?'"

By age 4, many kids can:

  • remember to say "hello" or "goodbye" to parents

  • sometimes say "please" and "thank you"

By age 8, many kids can:

  • ask about a parent's day without prompting

  • say "thank you" and "please" reliably in most situations

  • say "I'm sorry" – and mean it

There are more tips which you can find in Babycenter helpful. Good luck!

Master Hariz

Every Wednesday, he has taekwando class and last week was the first one. As usual, the overexcited person in the house, of course that's me... tersenyum sengih tengok anak bujang dia disiapkan oleh daddy untuk dipakaikan his taekwando attire. Ish..handsome pulak anak mummy ni bila dah siap.(kenalah puji anak sendiri kan??) I like the material. Selesa and cantik jek bila pakai.

Hmm..after this, makin hebatla dia bertaekwando dalam rumah nih. kang habis sume dia nak taekwandokan. Before join pun dah ligat sakan. Jangan dia buat Hana as his opponent sudah.

Aja Aja Fighting!

No more The Cullens...
No more vampire vs. werewolf
Enough of Bella and Edward
Its the end of the Twilight Saga

I'm back to my old addiction
Glued to my pc whenever time permits
I'm in cloud nine again....

I'm into Boys before flowers now
Adapted from the famous Japanese Manga Hana Yori Dango
Tho I've watched Meteor Garden, the Taiwan version umpteen times
Still it never fails to entertain me

My current obsession : Boys before flowers : Korean Version
For those who has Korean/Japs/Taiwan drama addiction like me, watch it here, its free...but the loading time is killing me...ish..tak sabar nak tunggu cd dia. Its gonna be a while, since KBS still plays the drama.

Thank you dear Hubby for your understanding watching me burning the midnite candle just to watch the korean hunks...ngeah ngeah ngeah...but look at the bright side, at the same time I'm brushing my Korean vocabs! Sarang heyo.

..p/s: teringat zaman masa preggiekan Hariz, dok tengok cite Meteor Garden ulang bape puluh kali sambil makan Dominos pizza...sampai terase Hariz pun ada ciri2 mcm Dao Ming Si...ahaks..

2 Mommies enjoying their lunch....

Had lunch yesterday wif Waty at Tony Roma's. First time for me here. The food not bad at all. They have set lunch which is very economical comparing to other western food outlet since their serving is quite a big portion. Its only RM19.90++ for soup of d day, drinks and main course. You have 4 options for the main course, i took quarter chicken and Waty go for pasta. And mind you, the quarter chicken compare to Kenny Rogers is huge difference!(in terms of value n size) And we add another starter, Onion Loaf..perghh..sedap nih..

Dahlama x bergossip and gebang without being distracted by our lil monsters...syok sekali skala makan wif our friends and our other half alone kan..hmm Daddy bile kite nak dating2 nih??..

Joy, kalau ko dekat2 sini sure koleh join kan? Tula sapa suh keje nun kat Putrajaya tuh...padan muke..tengok jeklah lauk pauk we ols ni yek..hehehe

His very first homework of the year!

The moment i dread the most has come. Homework time! This is his first homework and I think I was more excited than him. Sebabnya last year he didnt have any homework to bring back since he was only in pre-K.

Tapi, bab mengajar dia nih yang boleh buat hilang kesabaran. Memang x sesuai jadi teacher betul..hehe. Bukan ape...pakcik kecik nih kalau mummy n daddy dia ajar..dahla x nak dengar satu hal, pahtu ada je alasan2 yang dia bagi nak skip ..... n dia boleh sound balik; LR: teacher tak ajar mcm ni pun.."...."angin ke tak?..i remember the other day, we taught him numbers...Mummy: "ok abang 1,2,3........19, 20...21, 22...". LR: Mummy, teacher cakap sampai 20 jelah......hmmm..

Daddy: Ok..awak ikut the dotted lines tu...

Pandai abang nih....

Perasan tak Daddy dah tukar position..
mula lah nak start boiling tuh..

Masa nih dah banyak alasan dah...
bila suruh padam n buat balik nicely ..mula lah buat perangai.

At last, cakap.."Daddy, I'm tired....n kaki saya sakit..tak boleh buat homework.." ape lah connection kaki awak dengan tangan nak menulis tu sayang ooii....

My latest crave...

p/s: my brother has been discharged after 6 days in the hospital. Alhamdullilah, I donno which one helped to increase the platelet since he tried almost everything my mom gave him. TQ for the well wishes and thoughts.

This is the second helping for this week...yupp..sedap, lemak berkrim., sejuk menggetarkan....introducing.. Mcflurry Oreo Mudpies. Reminds me of TGIF's Mudpie..oh how i heart Mudpies! They have 2 flavours; Mudpies and berries. Havent try out the berries though...since i prefer the first one the most.

Masuk dlm freezer and biar dia keras..and then,
baru savour it to the last drop!

yummehhhh....dah keras..tak sabar nak masuk mulut..

Daddy's ice cream..konon2nya nak hilangkan heartburn...hmmm...
